Wondering if it is time to replace your old pillow with a new one to get a better night’s sleep? Have you browsed through various offers and you are still unsure how to choose the right one? We have prepared a brief guide for you to help you choose.

When should you swap an old pillow for a new one?

Not sure when it is the best time to swap an old pillow for a new one? According to experts, we should change our pillows every three years. You can easily see if a pillow is past its best when it is covered with sweat stains that are impossible to shift and it is not as springy as when you bought it.

Also, don’t put off buying a new pillow if you wake up every morning tired and with a sore neck. Don’t be afraid to invest in a good quality one because enjoying a good night’s sleep is really important. The type of pillow you choose and its quality will not only allow you to have a good rest and leave you feeling comfortable in the morning, it will also provide the correct support for your head and neck.

How to choose the right pillow for you?

Before you buy a new pillow, think about the position you most often sleep in at night and choose the shape of the pillow accordingly. Each position requires a different style of pillow, so let Wally tell you all about which pillows are best for which position.

Pillows for side sleepers

If you love sleeping on your side, your pillow should be thick and firm, as well as anatomically shaped to keep your spine in the correct position. Where pillows made of sheep’s wool are concerned, our orthopaedic or anatomically shaped pillow are the best choice for side sleepers. Thanks to one curved side, the orthopaedic pillow is suitable for those who like to sleep on their side with one leg extended and the other bent at the knee. The shaped pillow works in a similar way, it has a flat centre and raised sides.

Regarding memory foam pillows, side sleepers can also try the butterfly orthopaedic pillow. It has a special shape which allows you to place it not only under your head but also under your neck, thus giving support to your cervical spine. Another pillow suitable for side sleepers is the anatomically shaped memory pillow, as its thicker side provides great support for the head and neck.

Pillows for back sleepers

If you sleep on your back, a thick, medium-soft pillow which is anatomically shaped is a good choice. It keeps your spine in a naturally curved position and supports your shoulders and neck. From pillows made of sheep’s wool, we can recommend the special, shaped pillow. The flat centre and firm sides offer great support for the head and neck when sleeping on your back. From memory foam pillows, we suggest the anatomically shaped memory pillow for back sleepers, with the lower side more suitable for sleeping in this position.

Pillows for front sleepers

Sleeping on your stomach is not recommended for health reasons as it creates tension in the neck area. However, if you find it difficult to fall asleep in any other position, try using a soft, thin pillow. With regard to pillows made of sheep’s wool, we recommend our premium pillow with a zip, which means you can adjust the filling to your preferences. From memory foam pillows, you can choose between the pillow for front sleepers and the butterfly orthopaedic pillow that has a special shape and can be hugged when sleeping on your stomach.

Pillows for all positions

Some of you might protest that you roll over frequently at night and sleep in various positions.  There is a solution for you too. Choose a medium-soft and medium-thick pillow with a firm and springy filling. Such a pillow will work really well no matter what position you adopt at night, whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach.

Special pillows

If you tend to snore at night, we recommend you sleep on your side. This way, your airways stay open which improves your breathing and eliminates snoring. To help you, we have a specially shaped pillow for people who snore. We believe that this pillow will also make a great gift, especially for your other half.

Another good choice is a multipurpose orthopaedic memory pillow that is really versatile. When sleeping on your side or back, use it to support your neck, or alternatively, you can also place it under your knees to prevent pain in your legs. However, we have a special knee support pillow that can also be used under the arm or ankles, helping to relieve tension and soothe sore joints.

Pillows and cushions for daytime use

How about treating your back to some fluffy comfort during the day too? Yet other types of our pillows made of sheep’s wool can be used as a support if you have a sedentary job, while the bolster cushion is great for propping your head up when reading on the sofa or in bed. During long journeys, you are bound to appreciate the travel pillow which allows you to sleep comfortably even when travelling on a bus or plane.
